Does raw feeding (prey model diet or BARF) satisfy the dogs need to chew? Do they still chew on toys as much or does the chewing desire get somewhat satisfied by the RMB (raw meaty bones).
It does when they chew on it. If you want the chewing to go on longer, freeze the raw meaty bones.
If your dog is young, it will most likely still chew. Make sure you get a variety of toys to rotate, if you rotate them, the pup shouldnt get bored of them, also a kong filled with peanut butter is supposed to go on for hours if you need a good idea.
I have staffords and they are very ‘chewy’ dogs. If you want to keep them occupied a bit longer the frozen bones do work as well as frozen things in a kong. I used to stuff ours with a frozen chicken drumstick or neck for our ‘home alone’ pup.
I have found the rope toys last well and they spend ours playing tug o’ war with them. Gardening gloves are a big hit too – dammit )
My dog is fed the BARF diet and she is still as playful as she was on the kibbles. She never chewed anything else (in the house) than her squeaky toys and she still loves them. I think feeding and playing are 2 different things and it has nothing to do with her chewing desire being satisfed or not…
Hi There,
They do like chewing on the bone, but all dogs always chew on other things too. Sometimes things they shouldn’t be chewing, like My leather CowGirl Boots.Do you know anyone that would like a dog?

I didn’t notice any difference in the amount of time my dog spends chewing on toys or sticks after I started her on a raw diet.
they still chew on other things but they do chew less. it helps them calm down.
