I often read posts containing links to anti-raw sites and a large number of them use the term “all meat diets”. So many anti-raw sites and sources disparage meat as not containing the essential nutrients a dog needs. We KNOW this and feed edible bones and organs as well but these commercial food campaigners just won’t acknowledge that, and still spread misinformation about what raw feeding is about.
This is one of the most frustrating things about the anti-raw propaganda – we do NOT feed just meat. While there may be some people who do this, I believe that this is a direct result of vets refusing to educate themselves and their clients about what a correct raw diet actually is. These people are trying to do the ‘right’ thing by their pet but are unsure about how to do it.
To the people that do raw feed – what does your dog actually eat??
Mine eat a combination of meat, meaty bones and organs from various animals. These include chicken, beef, lamb, pork, turkey, kangaroo, fish and turkey.

Raw diets are ok too. but there are certain foods that can’t be fed raw. All fish and pork MUST be cooked. Raw eggs can cause salmonella poisoning in dogs. Dogs have a shorter digestive tract than humans and are not as likely to suffer from food poisoning, but it is still possible. best to use organic eggs if you do raw. Scrambled lightly is best!
edit: That is a really cool website you listed!
edit 2: I didn’t really know much about raw food diets but I just put what it said on the website that I sourced. but hey i’m researching it now so you got me into it. Thanks!
It depends on the person. Some people DO feed an all meat diet. Others have it as a 60% meat and 40% vegetable diet. These two types of owners argue back and forth relentlessly.
One says dogs are carnivores and don’t need the veggies, the other says dogs are omnivores and DO need the veggies. They explain that in the wild they would get them from eating the stomach contents of the animal they killed.
The other “strictly carnivore” owner replies that dogs DON’T eat the stomach contents because they are too bitter from the stomach acid, and blah, blah, blah.
I haven’t done enough research myself to pick a side, but this is the argument between the two. It seems the only thing they both agree on is that their vets are idiots for believing raw food is bad for dogs.
What does my dog eat? A variety of raw chicken, beef, pork, fish, turkey and eggs, with ~10% bone, 5% liver and 5% kidney.
He also gets a fish oil caplet every day for Omega-3.
And….
He also gets peanut butter, carrots, apples, bananas, cheese, green beans, etc. for the occasional treat. No, they are not required for a complete diet. Then again, chocolate, coffee and alcohol isn’t required for my complete diet
Well I’ve got news for those people. My dog eats all raw materials but not just raw meat.
Raw eggs veggies meat bones etc
my neighbors dog does he really loves it too..it like he is a wolf(he is a husky)
my sibe gets three whole chickens a week, a kg of fish, and a couple of eggs – all raw
in the morning he just eats kibble, if he wants it. most of the time he just waits for his evening meal.
he also gets table scraps – chicken and vegetable soup, pasta, etc. he’s spoilt!
I just started a raw diet a few days ago.
At the moment, he has only eaten chicken.. I plan to gradually add other meats, organs, eggs and tripe into the diet.
My dog does get some fruits and veggies as treats, but only because he actually likes them.
ADDED
Veggies vs no veggies.. dogs dont typically eat raw vegitation.. if they are eating any vegitation, it would be partially digested stomache contents. I dont believe that dogs properly digest vegetation to really get any nutritional value from it.
someone once posted a link showing someone who fed their danes whole carcasses.. it showed what parts the dogs generally went for first, and what was eaten last.. the dogs went for meaty areas first.. the stomache, and its contents, were among some of the last parts the dogs consumed.
Ive been feeding raw for a few months now, and I hate reading the garbage about raw meats cause salmonella or aren’t good for your pets. Where do people think dogs came from? They sure didn’t start out in little brick house eating kibble and canned foods! For meat to become contaminated it would have to sit out on a bench in the sun for a good several hours! If people knew what they were eating/buying from their local supermarket/butcher etc they wouldn’t eat anything! People need to get off their high horse and stop believing everything they read or hear about in regards to raw feeding pets. If they actually did their research then they would all be better off and their pets would be much happier and healthier!

My 6 month old puppy, Jordy, was on a partial raw diet for the first few months of his life until I fully understood what was required in his diet before I made the full switch. He eats a mixture of meats, organs and bones plus a whole raw egg (shell and all) every second day.
He has had: beef necks, lamb necks, chicken giblets, beef mince, mutton, beef bones, chicken necks, chicken frames, lamb fry, lamb liver, lamb kidney, beef kidney, beef liver, kangaroo mince, kangaroo tail, whole minced chickens, chicken wings, salmon, sardines and there is probably a whole lot of other stuff I am missing out. I cant wait to introduce pork, which I have been a little scared to introduce as I don’t trust the butcher, but I will have a fresh supply very soon straight from the pig pen! Im about to move so will need to find a new supplier so we will see what we feed next!
I have also just switched my sister’s kitten Kiah, and my kitten Taya, over to raw and they love it. I ran out cat food (I separate the dog food from the cat food) the other night and had a left over can of cat food in the cupboard… opened it up and served it to them, but neither of them touched it!
I don’t feed any veggies or fruits. I did give my puppy a carrot once as a treat and he didn’t touch it. Ive also tried garlic as an alternative to flea treatments but he wouldn’t eat that either.
I love raw feeding and the benefits. My puppy suffers from some allergies and dry coat/skin, he is already showing signs of improvement, and I think in another month or so he should be 110% healthy. He was also overweight when on commercial foods, but is now a very healthy weight for his age and breed. Ive also noticed Im saving a bucket load of $$$ each week.
To all those that would like to feed raw… do your research.
To those who are against it… do your research! You and your dogs (and cats) will be better off!
Mine get meaty meat, raw meaty bones, and organs. As well as raw eggs shell and all. This includes beef, pork, chicken, turkey, fish, lamb, rabbit, and venison. I’m sure I’m misssing something.
Most of our edible bones come from poultry, rabbit or fish. When I feed rabbit I feed whole fur on rabbits. Organs include liver, pancreas, and kidney. Others as I can find them.
My dogs look at me like I’m insane if I try to give them veggies.
And yes I feed raw fish and pork without issue.
