just give it to them they know what to do.. and if they dont .. then you know you have dumb birds and you might want to remove the shells and after that clip their wings cause if they can’t open shells then the dont need to be flying anywhere.. lol

I don’t knw about parakeets, but my mom has a cocaktiel and he gets unshelled sunflower seeds all the time. He uses his beak and talons to get the shell off. I really don’t think it matters.

my friend has parakeets and we give them unshelled sunflower seeds all the time.
they’re birds, they don’t need anyone to shell seeds for them. nature intended for them to do it themselves, that’s why they have beaks.

No, they are perfectly capable of shelling the husks themselves and need to work their beaks and claws to be healthy and psychologically fulfilled… Your birds will become moody and anxious if you do everything for them.

Make sure they are unsalted seeds and your birdie knows what to do with the shells. You do not have to take the shells off for it.

no, u shouldnt need to really. My red rump parakeets are very messy when they eat especially when it comes to clearing up the discarded shells! But it gives them something to do and stops them from becoming too bored.

No..their beaks are fit to do it. Don’t forget that these birds was living in the wild before they’ve been set encaged ;and in the wild there is no Thaly to remove the shells, I guess !

no, they are birds, they have beaks for a reason. You do not need to deshell they’re seeds. they don’t and wont eat the shell so don’t worry

leave the shells it helps grind down their beak (thats why ppl give them cuttle bone and stuff to chew on) they can easily break the shells they have pretty strong beaks plus they do it in the wild all the time

They do just fine opening the seeds themselves.
