Grain Free Vs Raw Feeding ?

I’m wondering if grain free food which is typically 40% (I know some are 35 and some are up to 45) protein is more or less than raw feeding?
It seems like raw feeding is only meat which to me means more protein but I’m told it’s not?

Grain free foods are still high in carbohydrates which your dog is just not designed to eat. Dogs have little to no nutritional need for fruit and vegetables – all their dietary needs can be supplied by (ideally) a carcass or frankenprey – a combination of meat, meaty bones and organs.
A Raw diet of meat, meaty bones and organs averages out at about 19-20% protein but as Rayven has said you need to consider the weight of the water. I checked the amount for beef jerky and this is about 33% so may help you reconcile the idea.

Its more than raw feeding. Raw meat is mostly water. Protein is about 20% or less depending on the particular meat. If raw was high in protein you wouldn’t find any large and giant breed breeders using it and many do.
ETA: depends on the version of raw they are getting. Prey model/Franken prey feeders do not feed fruits or veggies of any sort and what little the dog may get will be from whatever may be inside green tripe which is usually fairly clean unless its VERY fresh(like still warm fresh)
As for meeting their caloric needs- a more low speed dogs requires less than an active or working dog would. Not to mention raw fed dogs utilize every bit of their food compared to a kibble fed dog. The proof of that is in their feces.

Raw meat bones and organs have calories in them.
Raw fed dogs are fed approx 2-3% of their body weights daily. Dogs that are active, working, pregnant or lactating.. as well as growing puppies, may need as much as 5% or more of their body weights daily.. (more food = more calories.. as less active dog just doesnt need as much).
Raw fed dogs dont necessarily eat more, but since there are less fillers, their bodies utilize their foods better.

Raw has less protein…natural meat in general has less protein.
Most raw dogs eat no veggies or fruits…
Who said dogs needed to be dosed up with calories? Dogs that run more eat more…just like people…
Your dogs will lose most fat and gain a crap load of muscle.
If your grain free kibble is high in protein then you probably aren’t feeding that good of a brand. Really…natural meat…not so much protein.
If dogs needed that much protein how would they have lived through times before we had kibble?
