B.a.r.f. Diet Raw Feeding Great Dane?

How do I prepare chicken backs for my great dane, do i take all of the bones out? how much do they cost on average and how many do i feed each day? i am new to the raw diet but very interested in starting it.

    I don’t feed BARF but know a lot of people who do. Go onto petconnection.com (I think that’s it), go to google, look up everything you can. There is a lot of info on the web. Just make sure it’s from a good source and not someone trying to sell you something! Also, if BARF gets to be too much, there are foods similar to BARF but easier to prepare. Ooma’s, Nature’s Variety, etc. have tubes of meat you chop up and feed to your dog, or meat medallions. There is also the Honest Kitchen, they have mixes you mix with water into a mush (meat, veggies, and fruit).

    Perhaps no subject causes more controversy among dog owners than the merits or risks of feeding a raw food diet. On either side of the fence, you’ll find supporters who believe strongly that theirs is the best way to properly nourish our pets.

The whole point of feeding raw is to feed all the parts of the animal… this includes the bones, so, no, you do not remove the bones! Chicken backs are a lot of bone and fat and not very much meat. If you have a Dane sized dog and want to begin raw feeding and want to start with chicken, then buy a chicken, cut the chicken in half, and hand one half to your dog. Easy! A giant breed dog will probably eat somewhere around 2% of it’s body weight per day.
    Raw is a wonderful and natural and healthy and appropriate way to feed dogs. You also need to know a little something about what you are doing. Join a list or two, buy a book or two, search out a bunch of raw websites. It is easy once you have the basics. One piece of advice is to buy a large upright freezer… shopping every day sucks, and having room to buy 40# cases of this or that, or to buy ALL of the when it goes on sale is important.
