My neighbour and I are in a little bit of a feud…..
I have 2 greyhounds that I have been feeding raw chicken for about a week now. Today, I was feeding the pooches outside (less cleanup) and she comes over and explains to me that I’m feeding them ‘improperly’. With her 2 pooches, she feeds the chicken frozen.
Huh? My stuff gets thawed overnight in the fridge beforehand and thinking about it, wouldn’t it be the same thing as feeding a dog cooked chicken since the bones would be brittle from being cold? Whatcha guys think? Thawed or frozen?

some people feed small prey frozen to encourage chewing.. some dogs tend to want to gulp down large peices, which causes a chocking hazard. As long as your dogs are chewing and not gulping, then its fine to feed it thawed.
If you think about it.. most dogs in the wild dont typically eat frozen prey.. its ussually freshly killed. Larger prey may last a few days. In some climates tho, some wild canids DO bury their “leftovers” in the snow to hide it to save for later.. the bones would thaw as the dog eats and digests it and would return to a normal consistency, while cooked bones remain hard.
As far as raw vs cooked. Raw chicken would make US sick, but we are not carnivores, we were designed to eat a vegetation-based diet. Our digestive tracts cannot handle the bacteria load that comes with raw meat. Dogs are carnivores, the acids and enzymes, and even natural bacteria, found in their digestive tract can handle the germs that come with raw meat.
I don’t think frozen is as dangerous as cooked. But, in any case, you are not doing anything wrong.
I thaw my dogs’ meals in the fridge — sometimes my timing is a bit off, and some of it is still partially frozen. I put some in warm water for my elderly greyhound, since she often rejects food that is too cold. My other greyhound and the beagle tuck right in to it, frozen or thawed!
All have been raw-fed for years — the oldest for about 10 years — and have never had a problem.
Really it doesn’t matter. As long as your starting to give him a little bit at a time then don’t get more than a half of a chicken breast because THAT is no good. But I give my dog a raw frozen lamb bone and he has alot of fun with it (don’t give chicken bones or he’ll choke) but sometimes when I cook with chicken I give him a couple peices of raw chicken. I would’nt suggest you give him raw more than once a week especially if you just started it. Just give him a little here and there AND DON’T MAKE IT PART OF HIS DIET! Or just give him a frozen bone for fun.
I know all this because I talkd to my vet and the owner of a natural dog food store (Its a Pets Life) plus have experince.
A dogs immune system is completely different from ours. They wont get the same illnesses humans will from eating unproperly cooked meat. chicken, beef, it dont matter, raw or cooked is fine for your canine. I have a 5 yr old siberian Huskey & a 8 mth pit bull. both very healthy, and they get raw meat as treats. Go to your local butcher or even walmarts meat dept. get the gizzards, ect, cheap meats & your dogs will love you for it!
Well this has been a debate whether or not to give chicked to your dog raw or cooked, but I personally give my dogs whole raw chicken carcasses and never had a problem.
A dogs’ gut is designed to deal with rotten meat, raw meat, bone, hide, fur etc so I can’t see the harm in giving them raw chicken.

It should be cooked unless you are following a strict raw diet but i imagine frozen is not good at all
It should definitely be cooked. you can get worms and your dogs can too. i suggest..
A: don’t give it to them anymore
B:Cook it then give it to them
C: make sure there is no bones because that could kill them
When I give my dogs raw chicken parts or turkey necks I give them frozen. It takes them a little longer to eat that way & they are encouraged to chew & not gulp big pieces.
I think it should be cooked! Undercooked chicken can make you sick. Imagine what it can do to your dog!
