For those who have fed their dogs a whole raw egg, shell included, (RAW diets), do you poweder the shell first, and get rid of the white, or just give it to him/her?
I started feeding my 6 month pup 2 egg yolks plus 2 egg shells (crushed into a very fine powder) a week. but it would be so much easier, and fun for her, just to give her the whole, uncooked egg.
I’ve also head egg whites are bad, so what do you all do, do you just thourgh your dog and egg so it smashes, give it to her whole, put it in your dogs bowl with the white removed, powder the shell or…..or what?
Let me know your experiences, too please. I know dogs eat raw bones and have tougher gums and teeth than us humans, but I imagine the shell to cut the cums or to be a choking hazard? Will the bits of shell not cut the roof of my pups mouth if I don’t powder them like usual?
Any thoughts on feeding raw egg white?
Thanks every one ![]()

I don’t feed raw, but have given my dogs raw eggs more than once.
I usually gave the whole egg shell and all (or when my chickens laid, sometimes they’d thieve an egg for themselves–my chickens tended to lay in random spots).
The only thing with giving the entire egg is that sometimes dogs won’t eat the shell. Mine used to crack the egg and eat the inside and leave the shell alone. It really depends on what your dog will do.
I give a few a week.
In the summer it’s outside and I just hand him the whole egg, it can be quite entertaining as he plays with it first.
In the winter I crack it onto his food but put the entire egg in the food including the shell.
I do buy organic eggs, figure it’s not that much more to make sure I’m not putting any more crap into him than I have to.
I just hard boil the eggs for my dogs. I never heard of feeding them the whole egg, raw and with the shell. She would have just as much fun with a hard boiled egg.
Not a good idea at all because of all the bacteria of a raw egg cook first and not too often because they are fattening and can give the dog a stomach ache
did u make that up?? or did u get it from someone that is a professional?? cuz if u made it up u probably shouldnt do it!!
My dog likes scrambled eggs
i wouldnt do it………….
It seems JBizzle doesn’t really know what she/he is talking about. I really wouldn’t listen to that person’s advice.
While I have heard different things, this is a good question! A lot of people say that it is okay and I have seen dogs eat the egg raw with the egg shell and all-not crushed.
But I am no expert on raw feeding, but I do want to learn. I starred your question-hopefully experts come!
My advice for this question more than likely is not the greatest, I just am giving you my personal experience.
Dogs are carnivores by nature and eat eggs and actually steal the entire egg from nests if they are lucky enough to find one.
You can give your pup whole eggs but don’t be surprised if he/she really hasn’t a clue what to do with it.
I usually break mine for my dog but I don’t feed the raw egg everyday.
The shell won’t hurt your dog. If it pokes holes in the gums, the dog will learn to be careful.
geesh people, we are talking about bone crushing strength here. Egg shells are not a problem.
some say this is bad because the egg white inhibits some digestive functions, however the nutrients in the yoke more than make up for this, I just read this in an article about feeding raw. We have a Ridgeback and a Great Dane that we feed raw and add whole eggs to their diet regularly. We break the egg up but don’t powder it. I don’t think the egg shell will cut the roof of the mouth or present a choking hazard if you break it up but I would’t give it to them whole, especially a puppy.
