How To Start Feeding Raw To My Senior Cat?

We have 3 cats, all related, all a year apart. The oldest one is 12 and is SIGNIFICANTLY less youthful than the other two. I really don’t think it’s a coincidence that she’s the most fragile and hasn’t hunted in many years. The other two hunt frequently.
I really want to try feeding her raw to see if it improves her health. I don’t want to let her eat wild mice and birds from outside through because her immune system probably isn’t as resistance to disease as the other two are.
What should I buy for her? And where would be the best place to find such things?

I don’t now about the raw food, maybe you could try a brand that has less grain.
I have to agree about the cats being able to go outside on some level.
My cats after they got older would set at the doors and widows and try to shoot out the door when it was opened. I got them spayed and neutered and now they come and go as they please and are very happy and healthy. Just keep up on their shots and let them come in at night for sure. That’s what I do, I wouldn’t suggest this if you live near a main highway or don’t have much of a yard or one that is fenced in or if you live in an apartment but we are blessed with 8 acres of land fenced in and my babies don’t really go that far from the house but they love their freedom. Some cats are happy and content inside but mine weren’t.

Raw is one of the BEST diets you can feed a cat. Their digestive tract is short, and doesn’t breed bacteria like ours does. I do not personally feed raw, but I have friends who do. Best foods to feed raw are chicken, turkey, duck, lamb etc. NO fish especially tuna. I starred this for you so other raw feeders might see it, but they don’t always post at night.
If you also want, you can opt for organic and grain free wet foods. Do not just toss dry down for this poor cat, the wet will be so much better for her and she will have a much easier time digesting. And purina 1 is a shitty brand, i would avoid it.

    Hi
You would need to buy a grinder try just a piece of raw chicken first to see if she goes for it. here are instructionshttp://www.catinfo.org/#Home-Prepared_Di…http://www.mousabilities.com/cats/food/h…http://www.catnutrition.org/pictorial.ph…

My cats 15 and he’s got hypothyroidism. It makes him slow. Maybe she needs to get a check up at the vet.

Um… the best thing to do for your cat for its health is keep it indoors. There are a lot of dangers for kitties outside, healthwise and otherwise. Take it to the vet to make sure it’s okay, and just feed it a good brand of (dry is best) food for senior cats. Purina One is a good brand. I don’t suggest you feed any pet raw food. 12 is kind of getting up there for a cat so don’t be surprised if it’s slowing down.
EDIT: “Cat’s are not meant to be locked up inside?” There is no such “rule” for cats. Ask any vet. It is much healthier and safer to the cat to keep it indoors. The idea that cats have to be outside is an old, superstitious stereotype. Also ask your vet about food for it. I guarantee he/she will tell you dry food is best.
