What Do You Know On Raw Feeding?

I’m still learning a lot of things, but I know that 10% offal, 10% bone, and 80% muscle meat, you can feed anything from chicken, to fish, to the “rare” meats like venison or bison, the more bone you feed, the drier, more crumbly the poops are, but if you feed too much organ meat, the poops become soft, and diarrhea-like. I like to feed canned salmon for the omega oils, and egg for the shiny coat. I also use oatmeal as an occasional filler if necessary.
Also, a dogs digestive tract is shorter than a humans, so they can digest raw meat and not have to worry about illness from bacteria in the meat, though parasites from things like spawning salmon, or pork might pose some issues. I avoid pork and raw fish for this reason.
From personal experience:
Never feed pork: DIARRHEA
Never feed raw/boiled salmon: FARTS STRAIGHT FROM THE PITS OF THE UNDERWORLD! DIARRHEA!!
Don’t feed too much bone: Crumby dry poopies in the house, EW
Don’t feed too much liver: GREASIE POOPIE!!
My dog prefers chicken quaters and lamb neck, but BOY does she love the venison bone with meat on it as a treat! She also loves the canned salmon, who’d've thunk?!!?

    It’s healthy.
    It’s safe.
It can be expensive. Depending on the number of dogs you have and their sizes.
It can be time consuming. Depending on the number of dogs you have and how much you can freeze ahead of time.
Most people don’t have a clue about it.
People need to research it to make sure they give their dog the proper nutrients it needs.
It will not make a dog “mean” or “get a taste for blood”

I know it is a more natural way to feed your dog, and healthier – as long as the raw meat is handled properly. You know what your dog is eating. The dog’s teeth are cleaner, and there is smaller and less frequent stool. I am still a newbie (been feeding it for 3 months), so I am also still learning. So far though, things are going really well.
I prefer a prey-model diet to the BARF diet, because I don’t feel it’s necessary for them to have veggies, but that’s something you need to decide on your own.http://rawfed.com/myths/http://leerburg.com/feedingarawdiet.htm
Do lots of research, and good luck.

I know that it works for me! My dog loves it too. Buy this book and read it 3 times: http://leerburg.com/935.htm
Feeding raw is more of a commitment than feeding kibble. Feeding raw is like going to another level of dog ownership (responsibility) because you’ve got to plan meals for your dog rather than just measuring out some kibble. You’ve got to shop for bargains on meat (unless you are rich), prepare the food, store the food, serve the food… I was lucky enough to have everything I needed in the kitchen to do a raw diet for my dog. I already owned a food processor, meat grinder, poultry shears, and sharp knives.
The cost of feeding raw is not as bad as some people are saying. It all depends on how you shop. I’m not a great shopper. I generally just try to catch the sales at my local grocery store, but if I put my mind to it, I could reduce dog food cost for myself. The way I shop and feed my 75 lb. dog, it costs about $2.00 per day to feed her.

raw feeding is very healthy for your dog. all it is is basically raw chicken, beef, bison, and other raw meats. the reason dogs can eat raw food is because there digestion track is way smaller then ares, they can eat raw meat and digest it in 20 mins, so the food does not spoil or cause samonila. it is a very very healthy way to a good nutrious life for your dog. if you have the money to do it, (its not that expensive but more then dog food) then honestly do it, very good for the dog

It’s a good diet if you’ve done your research, know what to feed and the proper amount to feed and can afford it. You also need to have a reliable source from which you get the meats. You would want to feed human grade meats not slaughterhouse floor sweepings.

Not enough as I would like. I know that you feed meat, organs, and bone; approximately 80:10:10.
I currently feed raw as a supplement to my dog’s diet. I plan to feed all-raw once I feel I’ve researched it enough. I feel it is a healthy diet for dogs.

I agree with Brittney and W. but its worth mentioning that some ‘experts’ argue against it based on the fact that a dog in the wild would eat freshly killed raw meat however you would be feeding your dog possibly bacteria infected meat because yours was processed by a butcher etc….

Its a great diet for dogs if you know what your doing and you shouldn’t just feed it to them on a whim. You should know your stuff before feeding them it.
