What Are Some Good Books On Raw Feeding?
Because of all the problems with the recalls on dog foods I have decided that I would rather be safe then sorry. I was not feeding any of the recalled stuff but the recall has included a brand or two of supposedly good dog foods so I do not want to take a chance. I did a search for books on the subject and there really are quite a few books to chose from and some of the diets are really different, so I was hoping there are raw feeders that could direct me to some good books on the subject. please do not bother telling me not to feed this way or how bad it is. I have read up on it and I am currently looking for some holistic vets to help. I am not taking this lightly and I am doing the research. Also any websites or forums you could suggest would be great.

Raw feeding is great! I learned a lot from this site which shows you everything. You can look over the site for free and compose your dogs own diet from that or you can consult with the site owner for specifics if you are unsure of anything. A raw dog food that is freeze dried is “The Honest Kitchen” but it has received mixed reviews on how appetizing it is. On the other hand, I have never seen a dog balk at fresh raw meaty bones!
For organ meat, I use beef heart because it has taurine in it which is good for cats and dogs. This site tells you the ratio to use of organ meat to raw meaty bones and muscle meat. It also describes green tripe for digestive enzymes. It’s a great reference, I have tried the diet it recommended with a dog that had two bouts of pancreatitis before starting this. I would grind her raw meaty bones but only because she is a gulper.
I found the best raw meaty bones for my dogs were chicken necks and backs. Non weight bearing meaty bones were best.
