Ewww… I know. But my friend feeds her dog raw, me too, the only thing is, he doesn’t mop the floor after the dog gets eats the raw meat on the floor! He says he doesn’t like to put chemicals on the floor. But why not clean it with vinegar then??
Anyway, what happens when he doesn’t clean the floor. (there’s no raw meat left ever, the dog eats it up but the floor has to be dirty!
there will still be germs from the meat on the floor..then to add to it, germs from the dogs mouth.
There is this crazy myth that dogs salivia has an antibacterial effect…sounds like he is a believer.
Anyway…dogs mouths are dirty and have lots of bacteria. Thats why dog bites can be really bad because even a minor dog bite can lead to a bad infection. On top of that, some trace germs of the meat will still remain on the floor. However, unless he has kids, germy floors are not as bad as germy countertops because we dont eat on the floor, nor do we prepare food on the floor. Now if he was practicing those same no cleaners rule to his countertops…that could lead to food poisioning. My aunt’s family used to get the “flu” 3-4 times a year. My mom came to visit and saw her cut up a chicken…wipe off the counter with a wet rag with no cleaner and started preparing salad there. She grabed up the salad…threw it in the trash, and bleached the counter and then cut up the salad in a bowl and explained to her about cross-contamination. After that little lesson..the “flu” never returned. It was food poisoning..not the flu. So if your friend is against cleaning with anything…even vinagar will work, then I suggest not eating anything he has prepared
I don’t think a lot would happen other than the floor would attract more than the normal amount of bacteria to the area that the meat was in. Although it may not look like there is any meat left there will be some blood, fluids, and dog saliva. Cleaning the floor every so often with banking soda and vinegar or borax wouldn’t go amiss and isn’t going to be harmfull to the dog.
If the dog doesn’t get all of it then it could also atract bugs.
Your friend should use Murphy’s Oil Soap on his floors, as it has a veggie base to it & does not contain any chemicals in it. Sooner or later, the unclean floor will begin to smell pretty nasty. The combination of raw meat & dog saliva will leave an unpleasant odor on the floor. The dog shouldn’t be eating raw meat.
