Is It Good To Occasionally Feed My Dog Raw Meat/bones?

I saw an episode of the Dog Whisperer where Cesar showed how he feeds his dogs sub-primal cuts of beef? a couple times a week. Our dog primarily eats dry dog food. Would feeding her raw meat/bones give her digestive issues or diarrhea?
And please no negative Cesar comments. I read enough of them in here every day LOL.

I wouldnt go with the raw cuts of meat occasionally since you feed kibble mostly you could throw off the dogs diestive system. If you want to feed raw go raw all the way. As for raw MEATY bones thats fine, as long as they are not cooked, they are not left for days on the floor, and they are the appropriate size for your dog. No small bones for large dogs and no HUGE bones for little dogs. I like the knuckles and femurs that I can get at the butchers. It was recently hunting season here for deer so I got a ton of leg and thigh bones as well as other from deer and Elk and I froze them.
Contrary to what people will say, BIRD and FOWL bones are fine if they are NEVER EVER cooked. Raw bird bones do NOT splinter. I give my dogs Chicken, Turkey, Phesant, Pigeon, Goose, and Duck necks and back and Eggs with shell and they never have problems. My vet actually recommends it.

Uncooked recreational bones are a great way of cleaning your dogs teeth big marrow bones will keep them occupied for ages but do be careful when they start to splinter though.
You can feed raw rib bones and can feed them frozen to make them last a bit longer. Just dont feed them too often as they can become impacted in the gut and keep an eye on them while they are eating them just in case a piece gets stuck in the mouth.

No, it’s absolutely fine, as long as you make sure that if you are giving them bones, it’s okay for them to eat the bones.
For example, chicken meat is fine, even if raw. But, chicken bones are never okay for a dog. The chicken bones can splinter and when your dog eats them, they can get lodged in the throat.
We give our dogs pork neck bones. They are cheap, and they absolutely love them.
And P.S- I love watching Cesar. I’m currently working on leash training with two dogs, and his methods of training have proved invaluable. I don’t know why others speak of him negatively.

Yes. raw bones are better for dogs than cooked bones because they’re less likely to splinter. She might get a little diarrhea at first as she gets used to the raw meat/bones and her body adjusts, because dogs are actually designed to eat raw meat. It’s very healthy for them. A lot of pet food isn’t, especially pet food with wheat in it.

Cesar is the greatest!. Anyone who says a negative thing about him is just jealous.
I give my guys some raw chicken. Usually once a week they get a chicken thigh or a breast. Raw chick bones are OK, but cooked,
NO-NO. they get brittle and sharp.
I often get them a large bone from the butcher and tlet them chew on it. They love it. But then you have to get it back to dispose of it because of the “stink”. No cooked bones.

Yes. The only thing is if you continue to feed kibble, separate the meals by 8 hours at least.
Give the kibble 12 hours to digest.
What most people I know do is feed raw in the am and kibble in the pm.

yes its perfectly ok to do that. remember dogs are carnivores and dog food is not meat its just carbs and electrolytes. you would be doing her a favo.she’ll love you for it. but start with a little bit at a time or she might get diarrhea.

YES! It’s great to give your dog raw bones.
It exercises their mouths and keeps their teeth clean. Good luck with them! :D

  9. Dreamer says:

Absolutely! My dogs eat nothing but raw foods. Raw meat and bones are excellent nutrition for dogs and should not upset your dog’s stomach.
