Need Help Please, Can You Feed A Dog Raw Chicken?

Is it bad to feed your dog raw chicken? I know that us humans cannot consume raw chicken because of certain bacteria but is it bad for dogs, My friend is feeding her dog raw chicken, should I stop her or is it okay?

I feed my kennel raw chicken all of the time.
1. Dogs don’t have the same digestive systems that human beings do. They are much more tolerant of bacteria. Dogs eat disgusting things all of the time without getting sick. Eating fresh, raw chicken shouldn’t harm them a bit.
2. Most people who feed raw chicken are feeding stuff they buy in the store — i.e. human-grade chicken that has been USDA inspected and gone through quality control inside the plant. This doesn’t always ensure that the chicken is completely safe, but in this day and age it’s pretty likely.
My dogs get raw wings, thighs, and meat on a weekly basis, especially in the winter when they are working in harness. I have not seen an issue with feeding raw chicken in 10+ years of feeding raw foods. As long as the chicken is raw, the bones are like cartilage, easily ground up and digested by the dog.
Raw chicken with bone is Great for a dog as long as she is feeding manageable sized pieces so he can chew it easily. I fed a raw diet completely to one rescue dog that had severe allergies to just about everything else it seemed. He thrived on it!
Commercial dog food ie kibble, dry dog food what ever you want to call it did not hit the North American market until the 60’s. What exactly do you think dogs ate before that???? Leave your friend and her dog alone. Plus Venus it is the cooking of bones that changes their composition and makes them brittle and splinter so you are correct COOKED chicken is NOT a good idea. Raw bones are excellent for your pet. Raw is the best food for your dog. Do a little research and make up your own mind.
Can’t believe how difficult it is for folks to understand that dogs have existed for thousands upon thousands of years, all the while eating raw, spoiled, rotten, birds, chickens, and any other meat animal they could find or kill. Haven’t you ever seen a dog drink water out of the dirtiest mud puddle?
Most likely no dogs can choke to death on chicken bones! Trust me it happend with my dog and we had to pull the bone out of his throat!
Raw chicken is a common food in the BARF diet – “Biologically Appropriate Raw Food”. Many people use this diet for their dogs and it is said to be safe and quite healthy.
I wouldn’t worry about it. My dog use to eat almost anything and it was just fine. Sometimes it would eat dead mice, chickens and rabbits. My dog doesn’t know how to cook. hahaha. They are not like humans.

growing up my grandmother did it. i cook the chicken at least half way before i feed it to mine. but i don’t think it will hurt them. didn’t hurt ours
dog: – carnivorous animal. if you don’t feed it to him had he been out in the wild he would have eaten it anyways.
If you lived out here in the rural part of town where I live, neighbors raise chickens and dogs will chase chickens because they have that instinct in them for sport and food.
Also if one has a cat, you would notice that as much cat food you fix for them they will still go out and catch a mouse, lizard or snake.
The kennel where I take my dog feeds only raw chicken to the dogs they breed, these dogs never get anything else. It is actually very good for the skin and hair to feed a raw meat diet. As someone else posted, dogs are innately carnivorous.
Please do not stop her. It is fine. Dogs have a different digestive system than we humans do. In the wild, dogs eat raw meat. They were designed to be able to digest it. In the wild also, dogs can eat meat that smells so foul and rotten it would make you retch. Human grade raw chicken is okay for dogs to eat. Cooking kills nutrients and vitamins- thus raw is fine. Have your friend research the BARF diet for dogs. BARF stands for Bones and Raw Food. It can be a very healthy choice for dogs when compared to store bought dog food.

You should try to stop her, especially if she is also giving the dog the chicken bones. It is possible she thinks this is ok….some people read about a new diet for their pets and try it without doing much research. You should never feed your pet human food, especially raw, without talking to your vet or a LICENSED pet nutritionist. PS…I’m not perfect…I feed my dog scraps occassionally, but I worked at a vet clinic and know what I’m giving him and the amount I give him is safe.
Most likely the same bacteria that can cause harm to humans can affect dogs too.
It is not a good idea to feed a dog raw chicken. Even wild dogs who eat raw chickens get intestinal worms from the chickens liver. Plus if your friend is stupid enough to feed raw chicken this friend is probably giving chicken bones as well. When a dog eats a chicken bone they splinter, and can get stuck in the mouth and when it is swallowed it can get stuck on the way down and rip, and tear things up on the way out the other end. If I were you I would tell your friend that it is not a good idea to feed raw chicken to dogs. That is why they make dog food. Your friend might want to check into it.

no!! never, the dog will get real sick and you will end up taking it to the Vet. Tell your friend to stop. The dog could die.
