Is It Safe To Feed Dogs Raw Eggs?

Someone I met at work today told me that he feeds his dog two raw eggs every morning with his normal food. Is it safe and healthy to do that?

  1. Great Dane Lover says:

Yes it is perfectly fine to give dogs raw eggs, although they shouldn’t have them more then once or twice a week.
It will not cause a deficiency of any kind if you feed the entire egg (white & yolk) and it will not make your dog sick.
Science Diet is NOT a good food. It is nothing more then a high priced cheap filler filled supermarket food. It contains way too much grain and by products…you can feed a much better quality food for the same or cheaper price that will be much healthier & better for your dog.
    Some good choices are:
Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul, Wellness, Innova, Solid Gold,Premium Edge just to name a few

No. It robs their system of Biotin. It gives mine the runs.

  3. Munya Says: DUH! says:

No! I actually just read an article on this—feeding your dog raw or even hard boiled eggs actually depletes….something, a mineral or something…from their bones.
It’s very bad for them. Old wives tale that its good for them!

  4. Shepherdgirl § says:

Yes it is safe and healthy. It is something that would be fed if feeding raw and feeding raw is very beneficial to the dog.
It can cause some dogs diarrhea.

  5. mc says:

the eggs are suppost to be hard boiled. i dont think its a good idea…its as safe as feeding it to a human!

  6. Karen W says:

Not a real good idea as raw eggs may contain salmonella. If you are feeding a quality pet food such Canidae or Wellness you should not need to supplement. If you feel you must give your dog eggs, hard boil them first.

  7. Simone P says:

yes it is actually good for the dog. i have a rottweiler and a german shep. they each get 2 raw eggs, half /lbs of oatmeal(dry),1/2 cup of water and one big can of dogfood or fresh beef, or pork( all mixed together) in the mornings and sience diet (dry dogfood) in the evenings. been feeding my dogs all my life like this and my vet recomends it. never had any health problems in any of my dogs

  8. spirited says:

We had a rescue Great Dane and the vet said to include raw eggs in her diet. She loved it. She only lived about 6 weeks, but she was very happy and well fed the last six weeks of her life.

  9. Robert says:

im pretty sure its not healthy. i mean i dont even think its healthy for any type of living thing(i mean by animals and humans, not plants)

  10. screachk says:

    NO!

  11. dawn l says:

it is very safe to give dogs raw eggs cause it help keep thier coat nice and shine and healthy

  12. E H C says:

I wouldn’t recommend it. It seems to me like he could get salmonella just like people.

  13. emaf1uk says:

It’s fine to feed dogs raw eggs. One of our puppies was ill and lost a lot of weight – vet sorted him out but said for us to feed him raw eggs, mixed in with his food.

  14. shivercr says:

Not bad as long as you give them no more than one day.
This will actually promote skin and fur health. (at least my vet said so)

  15. lucki_me says:

Raw eggs can cause salmonella poisoning in dogs. Dogs have a shorter digestive tract than humans and are not as likely to suffer from food poisoning, but it is still possible.
But the vet did tell my dad to feed his dog raw eggs to help with weight gain

  16. Jason C says:

Its not just unsafe, but dangerous.
Food that is not cooked all the way threw is a potential carrier of a food bourn illness.
As a rule of thumb, food should be brought to an internal temperature of 165°F before it is served. This kills the germs, the length of time the food is at this temp. will determine how much it is cooked through i.e. well, medium well, medium, rare.
Don’t feed any raw food to animals or humans!

  17. moshfair says:

Yes it is. They’re included in the raw BARF patties i give my dogs everyday (including shell) and they’re fine. Provides lots of calcium and protein. It’s also great for the skin and coat.
The key is don’t overdo it (once/week or so is prob sufficient) and remember that eggs can be a source of allergy (as can many other ingredients).
But many dogs fed commercial dog foods all their lives need slow transition into raw foods as their bodies aren’t used to them yet.

  18. M.ystery-M.ayhem = says:

i feed egg yolk to my dogs as my dog’s breeder said it helps keep the coat shiny. but DO NOT feed the shell.
ask your vet or breeder first before feeding the dog egg yolk
