I currently feed all of my dogs a raw diet but am thinking of letting them enjoy a can of dog food each once or twice a week. It would be either Innova, EVO, Wellness, Blue Buffalo or another premium brand.
I just wanted to know if it was a good idea or not, because the reason why I switched them to raw was so they didn’t have to eat any crap. So.. should I do this or no? I just want to give them some variety, and I believe that it will help supplement them also.

Canned food once in a while never hurts. Just make sure you feed raw and kibble/canned separately (they digest at different rates)
I haven’t fed my dog a piece of kibble for 7 months, but last week I spent a whopping $3 on a can of Nature’s Variety Rabbit as a special treat. I figure I’ll freeze it in her kong or something…
As long as it’s high quality, grain-free canned, there’s certainly no problem with it!
I feed high quality kibble as dog treats…. probably a cup or so a day while I’m training. Right now I’m feeding Barking at the Moon and Orijen. Dinner tonight was turkey/turkey carcass.
I don’t feed this way for variety.. they get plenty of variety in the way I do raw feeding. I simply do it because kibble works in my pockets better!
as long as its high quality food, and not fed in the same meal as the raw (kibble and raw meat digest at different times)
it shoudlnt be an issue…
however for real veriety just use different kinds of meat,
My dog ate raw hamburger, kibble and tomato juice every day and lived for 17 years. She also ate lots of people food. Not sure what the answer is…
I’ve seen a lot of recommendations to feed both kibble and raw. Or even home cooked at kibble. Kibble isn’t bad just because it’s kibble. Kibble is whatever the company manufactures it to be. A high quality kibble or can shouldn’t be a problem.
As long as you choose a high quality food, it’s fine. I feed 2 meals a day, 1 is a frozen raw diet and the other is high quality kibble. I’ve had no problems at all with this feeding method, no soft stools or anything.
thats what I do. If i am camping with them, boarding, or if i am running low on raw foods, i trow in a scoop of EVO. The back of the bag even suggests mixing with raw sometimes. Either way, evo is far from crap, so you’re covered.
A can of dog food once or twice a week won’t harm your dogs. I keep cans of Jack Mackerel on hand for days when I’m in a hurry or forget to take the food out of the freezer, that’s easy too.
if you want to try it. I give a bit of kibble in the morning with my raw diet eaters. the thing with the raw diet is there is no set rules…(with feeding any animal really) and i ‘ll admit that i have lazy days sometimes or i forget to get their food ready and keep a few cans on hand for those days…
yes Thr canned EVO is fine. since it is very gently cooked and the dog’s bpdy digests it at roughly the same amount of time.
