I am wanting to feed my staff raw meat. i need to now how much it would cost (per week) and how much i should feed her on a daily basis and what is the cheapest bit of meat on the bone i could get from the butchers.
She is a 4 year old female staff if that helps how much i should feed her and any good tips of keeping the meat and serving it to her i.e (should i chop it up).
My mum says feeding the dog raw meat will make her blood thirsty i don’t think that is true but will it?
Myth: RAW MEAT WILL MAKE MY DOG BLOODTHIRSTY. http://rawfed.com/myths/bloodthirsty.htm…
If buying whole chickens you may need to quarter them to ration them out for meals, but minimal chopping is needed. My big dogs will even eat their meals frozen.

You feed your dog 2-3% of her ideal weight. You watch her body condition and adjust from there, if she’s getting a thin feed a bit more, getting fat cut back a little.
You try to come as close to prey as possible using an 80/10/10 ratio. 80% meat, 10% bone, 10% organs 5% of which should be liver.
Cost really depends on the deals you can find. Shop smart, buy in bulk when you can, some butchers can order bulk meats for you. Chicken is usually a good starter.
Don’t chop it up, that’s what your dog has teeth for
I was able to feed my 7 dogs this month for about $60 and I go through about 12 pounds a meat a day to feed them. I just did the math on that and it worked out to about 16 cents a day for 7 dogs.
Do your research before starting this type of diet, while its not difficult once you get into it not doing your research could lead to malnutrition for your dog.
There are several rawfeeding groups on Yahoo, and Dogster also has a raw feeding forum. Be sure to check them out.
Some good books on the subject include Raw Meaty Bones and Works Wonders both by Tom Lonsdale an Australian vet.
Good luck.
What is a BARF Diet? (Bones And Raw Food)
A BARF diet provides a range of benefits. These benefits include:
Reduced doggy odour.
Naturally cleans teeth – no need for toothbrushes, de-scaling jobs, helps prevent gum disease.
The time it takes for a dog to chew a raw meaty bones give their stomach time to get the acids moving.
Produces firmer stools with reduced quantity.
Can reduce vet bills (healthier dogs)
Economical to feed in comparison to commercial dog foods.
Mirrors what nature intended them to eat in the wild.
Puppies develop at a more appropriate rate and quick growth spurts are avoided. A GOOD breeder will want to stop fast growth in any pup.
The ripping and chewing involved in eating raw meaty bones develops the jaw, neck, and shoulder muscles of a dog.
Better weight control which helps to reduce the symptoms of arthritis and obesity. http://www.rawlearning.com/http://www.ukbarfclub.co.uk/
Hope this helps a bit. I am planning on starting our Dobe on barf soon
feeding a dog raw meat will not make them blood thirsty any more than it would make a human blood thirsty. It’s not possible. But you should never feed a dog RAW meat. only cooked with no oil or spices. and please supplement the diet with real dog food. it has the veggies and carbs a dog needs too. dogs are omnivorous which means they need veggies too.
What will happen if you feed a dog raw meat? the same thing that happens in humans, they can get samonila, e-coli, and worms! dogs get worms easy too. so no raw meat! you can buy her smoked meat on the bone from pet stores, it hasn’t been cooked exactly but smoked so its sterile. My staffy loves it!
Wow it is shocking how many people believe myths and rumors!
Feeding Raw DOES NOT make any dogs blood thirsty. There are several benefits to feeding a raw diet. It is great for dogs that have food allergies to grains or a specific protein. It is less likely to cause bloat then kibble. There is less waste produced (stoole and what is produced crumbles in a day) Improved the condition of the coat as they are getting more of the omegas that the bdy requires.

if you want my advice i would’nt feed your dog raw meat your mum is right about making her blood thirsty our dog may turn on you or other people
I feed my boxers raw diet. You want to feed approx. 3% of the dogs body weight daily divided up into 2-3 meals per day.
Here is my feeding schedule.
my 2, 75 pound boxers eat 3 pounds of food per day
my 55 pound boxer eats 2+ pounds of food per day
my 5 month old pup eats 2+ pounds of food per day
Morning feedings
75 pound dogs
1 whole chicken leg quarter plus 1 thigh or drumstick each
1 chicken liver
55 pound dog and pup
1 whole chicken leg quarter each
1 chicken liver
Afternoon snack
3 chicken gizzards each plus 1 chicken heart each
Night feeding
75 pound dogs
1 whole chicken leg quarter plus a thigh or drumstick
1 whole mackerel or herring
55 pound dog and pup
1 whole chicken leg quarter
1 whole mackerel or herring
I also give them a whole egg every other day, shell and all.
I buy 10 pounds of chicken for $4.98 i go through about 60-70 pounds of chicken a week.
I break down the cost this way. When i was feeding kibble it was costing me about $1 to $1.50 per pound of food. I am now spending roughly $.75 per pound of food to feed my dogs plus it is more natural for them and healthier for them also. Their breath is a lot better, they have almost no gas and clean up is less then half of what it was when they were on kibble.
yea. WHAT EVER HAPPENED O DOG FOOD?
esspically with Staffordish Terriers i think you should DEFF. stick to the dogfood
DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVE ALL DOGS!
dont give it raw meat, it might poison the dog and it will make it blood thirsty.
Don’t. You are doing no favours to your dog by feeding raw meat.
Why so many clueless answers do wild dogs strike up a fire and cook their prey i dont think so they eat it raw.
ξBindi§, could you provide some info on how you are able to feed your 7 dogs for 60 dollars a month. I just started feeding my dogs a raw diet, and am looking for the best method to feed them.
Where do you purchase your food from?
What types of food do you feed them?
Thank you
