Thinking About Feeding My Dogs Raw (meat)?

I’m really, Truly thinking about it, because i’m tired of buying dog food that only lasts 1 month and a half. they eat pedigree (i know crap food) anyway, i can get more meat at the grocery store for what i pay for a bag of dog food and it may last much longer too. I’m not trying to hurt anyone saying that dog food is bad, you feed your dog what you want. I have 3 greedy dogs to feed. I’ve fed them a piece of raw meat before and they seemed to enjoy it. So what I will try to do is go to the store and buy them a gallon of chicken livers, legs, and of course the bucket of chicken scraps (liver, heart, gizzard) hope my mom will agree with me, probably not, but i’ll even pay for it myself. also have to buy them some oatmeal too. will try to find meat at discount, wish me luck!!

    LMAO these people are dopes.
Raw is good for the dog, the organs, meat, bones are all great. DONT forget raw bones they are essential. They dont really need the oatmeal by the way, its really unnecessary.
As far as bacteria, dogs have different, longer digestive systems and they can handle the bacteria that would normally make us sick. As far as how long it lasts, it can last anywhere from one to two months, however it is less expensive than buying a months worth of Dog Food.

you know theres also the option of high quality dog food right? I saw no outward differences between raw and high quality dog food. So I just went back to kibble. I feed Natures Variety Prairie. WAY out of pedigree’s league. you should try this first. I still feed raw bone once a week though for oral health.

Ah for christ’s sake, raw meat will NOT make your dog sick, it’s actually a hell of a lot healthier for them. I’m tired of people thinking that since we can get sick, so can they.
Anyways here is some very helpful information for you on feeding raw:

Talk to your Vet first because animals can get salmonella. Which can become a very costly treatment.

I have one dog, I fed the raw diet for abit.. but it got to be abit much for now to prepare his meals, clean up afterwards, etc.. Im really concerned about salmonella because I have a baby that is crawling around (FYI, dogs rarely get salmonella!.. also, parasites? Domestically raised meats are wormed, your dog should also be on a monthly heart worm preventative anyways, which often also has another wormer in it!) My dog is back on a high quality kibble for now.. although I may still feed him some meals as raw.
How long the meat lasts depends on how much you buy. Id buy the whole fryer chickens at walmart, some ribs and a few packages of organs.. 3-4 chickens, a package of beef ribs, and the organs lasted me about a month. It costs about the same as high quality food, but I also wasnt shopping the smartest way possible.. which was fine enough for me, since I only had a small dog to feed.
If you shop at butcher shops and get deals on packages of meat, it can be alot cheaper than dog food. many raw feeders are constatly watching for deals on meat, and invest in a freezer just to store the meat.

RAW diets are great for all breeds of dogs. You can find out some great information about raw feeding by searching for the BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) diet. It is also important to note that even with raw diets dogs need more than just meat. Dogs are not strict carnivores and also need some veggies in their diet.
I feed my dog PetMix which is a mix of dehydrated vegetables you can add fresh or raw meat to. It makes cooking for my dog a lot easier.

I have two GSD`s and have Always`s fed them raw meat. See your butcher and if you order enough he may be able to do a deal for you. Unless you can afford to feed them the good stuff not the rubbish then I should stick to the canned or dry stuff. Never give your dog`s raw chicken or pork. My dog`s get two pounds of prime beef a day and yes they do probably get fed better than me but I am nearly 79 was a vet for over forty years and they are my only company and my best mates and we also walk ten miles a day. I get 40lbs at a time and freeze it , it is only thawed on the day it is to be used.
Duke is 7years old and 120lbs
Aussie 5 years old and 105 lbs and they have never had a sick day in there lives. What ever you decide I wish you good luck, remember about the chicken and pork.

i think sleddogs eat raw meat because they will need a whole lot of caloires and they probaly will burn it i dont think you should give any to your dog unless hes a working freak like sleddogs theyll probaly get real fat and if you do the meat might have worms wolfs adapted to it

  9. Mopsi Dog says:

Do NOT feed raw, unless you want to end up at the vets with a half-dead dog dying of parasites. Dogs are not wolves!!!

ok first off feeding your dogs raw meat all the time WILL MAKE THEM SICK. dog food is all they need if they are large dogs take a large mug (a regular mug holds 1 1/2 cups) and give 3 scoops for each dog in the morning, and that’s all they need. if you are worried about how much it will cost you then think about how much the vet bills will cost when they get sick from the meat.
if ur gonna give them meat anyway at least bake it first some raw meats contain parasites like tape worm.
i dont give my dogs raw meat and i own 5 small dogs (i live on a farm)
