I have feed my cats a raw meat diet for the last seven years. I control of what goes in my cats' digestive systems - the meat comes from the same organic market that my meat comes from (though I don't eat as much meat as they do).
Short of raising my own chickens and turkeys it's the best I can do for them.
I am sure you can see the benefits for your cats in just three short months. Most people seem aware of the benefits of eating wholesome food appropriate for humans (meat from "uncontaminated" sources, fresh fruits and vegetables rather than processed foods. The same holds for our comanion animals who deserve to have a diet appropriate to their species.

I doubt I'll have the best argument, but that's cool. I'm always happy to endorse good nutrition!
I am pro raw. But I don't feed it.
Poppy (pictured) got fat. Ok, I LET her get fat (25 pounds). She had loose stool. I found Y!A, did some research, and *time passing noises* I started feeding her canned food. Things improved but I wanted them to get even better. I began researching raw. I researched the hell out of it!
Ultimately I decided against it because I was admittedly a bit confused about the best way to go about it (whole prey, ground, whole prey, ground, whole prey, ground *ahhhhhh!*) and wasn't confident I would get the supplements right. Or choose the right supplement....
I haven't ruled it out entirely, though. After Poppy's vet visit this Sat (a new holistic vet!) I may consider it again if the vet says that more weight loss is required. I know they are pro-raw and so will likely give me some help.
I do suspect she would do very well on it, because I've begun feeding chicken necks for their teeth and it actually seems to have improved her poo even more!

I have four house cats. Two have special diet needs. The one is prone to forming crystals in his bladder that have blocked him several times. He needs to eat a prescription diet. The other special needs kitty is prone to gaining weight. She needs to also eat a special prescription diet. I tried raw for a few months after my male had some issues with FUS. Raw made it worse. Only the Hill's prescription diet seems to help. As for the fat cat....she is a picky eater believe it or not and really prefers her food cooked...not raw. Cats are true carnivores and need protien and processed carbs. Yes when they kill and eat a mouse they are getting processed carbs from the mouse's stomach and intestines. Both of these cats were farm cats born outside and raised on mice and birds and bugs, whatever they and their mother could catch. From my experience it is hard to provide a home prepared balanced diet for a cat. The other two cats are Devons and they have been raised on the Hill's food that my other two can eat. So in my case, and in probably the case of many other house cats, feeding a commerical diet is the best option. Unless you have the time to measure, and cook and prepare the home made food that meets all the needs of your cat. FYI My dog will not eat raw food at all. She will only eat canned dog food or something that I cooked.

I currently feed Merrick Gourmet Canned Cat Food as her main meal and supplement with Nature's Variety Instinct Dry Cat Food.
I have heard of the Barf diet. I am unsure about feeding my domesticated cat a raw food diet. I understand that cats are carnivores. It is much easier to feed commercial food and not have to worry if I am preparing it correctly or the food going bad.

I would like to feed my cats a raw diet, I am just afraid they will get sick. Can you please e-mail me an example of what you feed your cats in a day? I would really like to start feeding my cats this way, but I would like to hear from someone who actually does it. Thanks!

Good for you, but some people just can't afford it. It's hard enough to put meat on the table for a family without having to worry about buying that much extra for your pets on top of it. You can spend a lot less getting a giant bag of cat food to last for a month or more, and still have the money to feed your family on afterward. Trying to buy all raw for your cats and your family members on top of it would be way too much.
