Types Of Food For Feeding My Cat?

I’ve been feeding my two cats raw meat ever since they were kittens well not really giving them raw meat as in young kittens but canned food and treats. After they got a little older I started giving them raw meat (beef) and I’m starting to think if this nutritional or not.
Some reasonable answers will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have feed my cats a diet of raw organic chicken and raw organic turkey with a supplement powder for the last seven years. It is certainly an optimum diet for cats. I would use poultry rather than beef, or at least vary it with poultry.
Both Jennifer and Ken have given you some good references for raw meat diets. There is also a Yahoo group – WholeCatHealth where a majority of people are feeding raw or working toward that goal.
When you feed raw meat you must consider “whole” prey. Just the meat protein alone is not sufficient – there must be a source for calcium and organ meat such as liver and heart. So you need to add some supplements to your meat or your cats will be eating an unbalanced diet which could do more harm than good.
At http://www.littlebigcat.com Dr. Jean Hovfe has an article in her article library titled “Easy Homemade Diets for Cats and Dogs” which will give you an idea of what supplements are necessary for cats.

As a treat it’s fine, but not as the only thing in their diet. Cat food is designed to have all the vitamins and nutrients that a cat needs – one reason why cat food is different from dog food.

    Hi
A raw diet is fine if properly prepared for a cat You can give raw as a snack non prepared to compliment the canned

Beef meat only isn’t balanced enough nutrition for a cat..
I’m all for raw feeding, but, you do have to do it the right way..
The idea behind raw feeding is to replicate what a cat would eat in nature.. In the wild, a cat would eat the whole carcass of a small animal in particular portions of meat, bone and organ.. The idea behind raw feeding is to replicate those proportions when feeding your cat..
There are a number of companies that sell ground meat and organ in the appropriate proportions..
Here’s some sites for reading for you..http://www.catinfo.org/makingcatfood.htm

There’s also a great raw feeding group on Yahoo including links to suppliers.. Just go to yahoo groups and type raw feeding..
