Do You Feed Your Dog A Raw Diet?

I keep hearing so many stories, both good and bad about a raw diet for my dog. I am just wondering if anyone actually does feed there dog raw meat and if so what are to pro’s and con’s??? Has anyone ever gotten sick from feeding it to thier dog?

I feed a raw diet, I’ve done so for 10 years. The parasite the gentleman brought up is usually found in bear meat and sometimes in low quality pork. I don’t even know where to find bear meat and I usually steer clear of pork. A raw diet is the best diet to feed a dog, period. They’ve evolved over thousands of years to eat raw meat they’re whole digestive system is designed to kill germs and efficiently break down animal protiens. Lion keepers at the zoo don’t feed their lions kibble with grains and vegetables. Wolf keepers don’t feed wolves kibble either. They’re carnivores, just like dogs, common sense says if you want to keep a carnivore in captivity or as a pet that you should feed it raw meat, organ, and bone! Dogs haven’t evolved into omnivores as bears and humans have (yet anyway). Their short digestive tracts mean they can’t even benefit from the nutrients in plant matter because plant matter is harder to break down and requires a longer digestive tract (and teeth that can grind them into pulp, not large scissor like molars like dogs have which just cut them into smaller chunks). To answer the second part of your question: If you get sick from feeding your dog raw you don’t have good hygeine skills! Most people touch raw meat every day in their own kitchen, if you are the type to not wash your hands after handling raw meat to feed your dog/s, you probably don’t wash them making your own food so you’ll probably end up sick anyway…I use latex gloves and an anti-bacterial handsoap and I’ve yet to have a problem…I feed every dog I own including my little chihuahua/jack russ. mix a raw diet with 0 veggies, and 0 grains. The only supplements I use are salmon oil for omega 3’s and a multivitamin once a week to pick up any slack I’ve left in the diet. I feed raw to all three of my dogs.
I am a vegan and havent eaten meat in well over 6 years. I have to ocassionally handle the meat, but with proper techniques(basic washing of hands and surfaces the meat has touched) no one has ever gotten sick.

There are many raw feeders on the forum that can tell you their experiences as well. Detox varies with each dog, it is the body releasing and dealing with the bodies toxins that it has had to hold on to. Most start to go through it after a couple of days on raw. All mine looked amazing the first two days, then got horrible smelling and everything got worse, then one day after a week and a half, my dogs were just done, they looked amazing and no longer smelled.
If you do raw, research it a lot, make sure you know what to expect when you first start raw, then go for it.
I fed my dog frozen raw food. I actually got really sick from it myself. It must have been due to handling it. I would wash my hands really well but sometimes it’s just from touching the dog after he eats.
Other than that, I didn’t really notice a difference in my dog from feeding raw or Orijen. Orijen is very good dog food so I think it’s comparable to feeding raw. One thing is, the bones were good for my dog’s teeth. But my dog didn’t really “love” the flavor of raw food, so it was difficult for me to get him to eat it. And normally my dog hates kibble. Orijen seems to be the only thing he likes out of dog food.
Not every dog will like the taste of raw food and you have to be really careful how you handle it. You don’t want you or your family to get sick. Also watch the dog with bones. That’s very important.

I feed canidae als for my girls
I have given puppies ground chuck as a weaning inhancer but I do not feed
raw. Dog can get trichinosis the same as humans. This worm stays in the tissue of muscle and weakens the person/animal. Might want to do a search for it.
Yes, I do. Once a week, they get a helping of Nature’s Variety raw diet, instead of dry. The other 6 days, they eat the dry formula.
I feed both of my dogs a raw meat and bones diet. They love it and they’re thriving.
