Hey I am looking for people who feed their dogs raw diets. Do you have any good links? What type of things to do you feed your dogs? What are their fav things to eat? We are feeding eggs, chicken, rice and cheese once a day and dry food (canidae all life stages) once a day for the older dogs and twice a day for the puppy. We want to feed all raw but we need more information about it. So if you feed raw please let us know of some good sites and any other information you can give us. Thanks!
One thing that is important for you to know is for your dog to receive the maximum benefit of raw feeding, you have to cut out the kibble completely. Raw food and kibble digest differently. You will read more about this in the links below.
The links I have prepared for you are ones that I have researched myself as well as ones that were sent to me when I joined the yahoo group for rawfeeding. I would suggest signing up for it. It is free to register, they don’t spam you and you can opt out at anytime. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfe…
Why I chose to feed my dog a raw food diet:
I adopted my lab/pit mix at 1 year old. He had been a stray and was the most amazing dog I have ever met. It was love at first sight. When I brought him home, I fed him (quality) kibble. He had daily diarrhea, often several times a day. I felt horrible for him. We were at the vet twice in the first month for his bowel problems. My vet told me to feed Science Diet, Sensitive Stomach Formula. I knew that SD is crap food, but I was desperate to help my dog. It worked! Then I found out that not only is there no nutriton in SD, but they add stool hardeners! I was so mad. The food was only masking the problem.
I knew there had to be a better way. I was heavily reading everything I could about canine nutrition. I had my dog tested for allergies. (dogs can be sensititve to something without being allergic) I changed food every few weeks trying to fnd something nutritious that wouldn’t make his bowels expode.
I started cooking boiled chicken and rice for him and only feeding him that because that was the only way he’d stop having diarrhea and I could actually know exactly what he was eating. There had to be a better way.
I had heard of raw feeing but it sounded crazy to me. I mean, feeding your dog bones? That’s insane! They could choke! Well, after careful research and consulting with my vet, I decided that I had tried everything else and this was worth a shot. It turns out raw bones are GOOD for them! They don’t splinter like cooked bones. They clean the dogs teeth. This is what a dog’s digestive system was meant to eat!
Aside from the diarrhea, my dog suffered frequent ear infections, UTIs, and anal gland infections. He had gas, bad breath and the frequent diarrhea. All of that is now gone! He is so healthy and his immune system fights off everything on his own. There are no more monthly trips to the vet (so costly!) and he has so much energy.
I always suggest everyone should at least look into raw feeding, even if their dog is already healthy. Keep him that way, right?
My dog is almost 80lbs and he eats 2.5 lbs of raw a day. He gets half of a chicken in the morning and his evening meal varies including eggs, veggies, duck, venison, bison, beef, turkey, fish, organs, etc. He loves it! There is nothing more satisfying than hearing him crunch on those bones because I know it makes him so healthy and happy.
Keep in mind, you have to be careful with bone/meat ratio (explained in links) and what kinds of raw you are feeding. (example, too many organs or weight bearing bones can be bad)

I wish you the best and if I think of anything else, I will edit!
There are a ton of websites with information on RAW feeding – too many to list. For me, it’s a never ending quest for information.
Just remember, what works for one dog won’t necessarily work for another. Also introduce new proteins a little at a time – trust me – you won’t like the mess that can be made by feeding too much of a new protein!
You might want to join a web message board for your dog breed – there are usually sections for RAW feeders there and can give you some great advice!
Also – rice and cheese aren’t fed in a proper RAW diet.
I’ve been feeding my dogs raw for about 5 or 6 months now. They will eat anything I put in front of them. I have problems with finding a great variety of raw meats where I live so I do buy from the Supermarket which is more costly at times.
They mainly get:
Buffalo
Horse
Chicken Wings
Chicken Necks
Chicken Mince
Lamb Offcut Bones
Lamb Kidney
Beef Kidney
Beef Liver
Lamb’s Fry (Liver)
Pork Hocks
Buffalo / Horse bones
Ox Tails
Beef Heart
any of our meat which has been in the freezer too long or is past its use by date – mince, chicken breast fillets, etc.
Raw eggs – including shells
Sardines (tinned)
My dogs both look great – shiny coats, white sparkling teeth, fresh breath. My previously too skinny Malinois is in great condition and my too fat Kelpie has lost weight and is in great condition as well.
Here’s a link with info on different types of diets regarding raw diet.http://www.bones2go.com/page1/page1.html…
If you want to go raw, then maybe something like Honest Kitchen, a balanced food you can add fresh meat to, is something to consider.
I’d recommend it, but I wouldn’t recommend anything by Diamond and I wouldn’t recommend Canidae since it changed its formula.
As a matter of fact, I do:http://www.rawfed.com/ (RawFed)http://www.rawlearning.com/ (Jane Anderson’s Raw Learning Site)http://rawfeddogs.net/ (Raw Fed Dogs)http://www.rawmeatybones.com/ (Raw Meaty Bones)http://rawfed.com/myths/preymodel.html (Raw Prey Model Diet Vs. BARF Diet)http://community.livejournal.com/rawdogs… (Raw Dogs Livejournal Community, excellent raw feeding information on the profile page and overall helpful community for raw feeding questions.)http://www.rawfed.com/myths/index.html (Myths About Raw Feeding)
Edit: cat & jo, Diamond does not own Canidae. That was a rumor. They simply use the same facility to process their foods now.

I would honestly start here http://www.dogster.com/forums/Raw_Food_D…
There are a TON of great links about feeding raw.
Sorry I forgot to add about my dogs haha.
It varies what we feed, so I’ll just list off a few things:
- Pork riblets
- Beef riblets
- Beef liver
- Beef kidney
- Chicken backs
- Chicken necks
- Pork heart
- Chicken hearts and gizzards
- Pork hocks
And more.
A word of warning though, there are many dogs that do not do well with raw pork. If you plan on using pork, I would introduce it slowly to ensure it is safe.
Favourite foods are usually the liver and the chicken backs

What I feed: Chicken, turkey, pork, beef (would LOVE to add venison and goat/lamb but still working on finding a cheap source)
Favorite things to eat: everything. I think she likes pork and beef the best, but she eats just about everything with relish
Good luck! It’s an absolutely awesome thing to do for your dog.
never ever give your dog turkey, its too rich for them.
we give our king charles chicken the odd time. he loves it.
other then chicken that’s all he gets
I feed raw and have been doing so for six months.
My favorite site- http://www.rawlearning.com/
I feed any raw meat I can get my hands on. My dog doesn’t really like Chicken or Turkey, but he loves pork and venison. Buying in bulk can save you money. My mutt won’t eat chicken livers but adores beef livers. I recommend you do a lot of researching before going on a raw diet. It may seem very hard at first, it did to me, but now it is extremely easy! I fast once a week, that means that I feed nothing but little treats throughout the whole day. My fasting day is Tuesday, but you can fast on any day you want.
My dog has had so many benefits from raw! Shinier coat, more activity, etc…
Oh, and one thing that I *really* like about raw- if your dog poos in the yard and it rains before you can clean it up, the poo practically melts away into the ground!

ETA> I forgot to add, I do research on raw whenever I can find time to. Researching raw isn’t a one time thing, you can find your basics then start feeding- but you still have to do research. I bet 20 years from now, when I start breeding, I will still be researching the raw diet! Best of luck! =)
