My Cat Is 8 Years Old. Is It Good If I Make Her Start A Raw Meat Diet?

Recently i’ve been feeding her with canned salmon as she doesn’t like canned cat food.
Yesterday we took her to the vet and he told us that the canned salmon is not good.
So is it good if i start this diet with her?
she like to eat raw meat or chicken sometimes.

Raw meat is the diet that Nature intended cats to eat. Baby bunnies and mice don’t come cooked, nor does a cat eat dry cat food in the wild. The only problems with feeding raw is that there is more to it than plunking down a piece of chicken. The other problem is the same one that we have during dinner preparation – the possible contamination of the food prep surfaces and our hands from the raw meat. You do need to show the same care in cleaning up after feeding your cat as you do when you prepare your own dinner.
There are also commercially prepared raw diets available that take all the guesswork out of the ingredients. They are available in most of the smaller pet stores, so you might want to check them out.
The reason your vet said canned salmon was bad is that it lacks the essential nutrients a cat needs, like Taurine. Cooking (and the canning process) destroys them, but the are available in the raw meat.

For snacks yes. If you want to feed a raw diet, it has to be specially prepared. human food not prepared correctly will eventually lead to hearet failure. cats need the whole carcasshttp://www.mousabilities.com/cats/food/h…http://www.catnutrition.org/pictorial.ph…

Cats don’t like sudden change. Some cats (like mine) won’t touch wet food with a ten foot pole. Whatever you do, do it gradually.
Good luck, but don’t be surprised if she won’t eat it.

I think she will need some dry food (Royal Canin or Hills Science Plan) to chew on for her teeth. Dry food/biscuits cut down on tartar that builds up around their teeth. This will make a difference to her at this age as this is when mouth problems begin.
Personally I wouldn’t recommend an ALL raw meat diet but try giving her raw meat as a treat maybe. Mine don’t like canned food but will eat pouches of it. I have found it is trial and error to find the ones they really like.
    Good luck!

Raw meat is just as dangerous to your cat as it is to you. When your vet told you canned salmon wasn’t good that is because food intended for humans doesn’t meet the nutritional needs of a cat. Ask your vet for suggestions.
