Switched To Raw, Dog Seems More Hungry Now Even Though I’m Feeding Him A Little More Than The Requirement On?

the package. It is frozend raw with veggies. (Nature’s Variety)
So he is eating more than when he was eating kibble but he’s more hungry. He was on an almost grain free kibble which had whole oats as the only grain. It is holistic, super premium.
Do dogs feel more hungry on the raw diet at first?

Some dogs when fed the pre-prepared raw diets miss the chewing part of eating. You may want to consider adding some raw recreational bones to his life.
Personally – I prefer to just do a basic frankenprey diet – its cheaper.

Nature’s variety IMO is just the raw equivalent of kibble. Because you are giving your dog patties/nuggets they are eating just as fast if not faster than when they had kibble. Eating fast prevents the body from knowing when its full, properly.
If you are going to stick with NV start introducing some raw meaty bones into your dog’s weekly diet. Try subbing out a meal for a meaty bone meal or adding some RMBs to his actual meal.
If your dog was actually having to actually stop and chew and work at his food he would be getting the sensation of being full because he would have taken the time to chew and process his meal.
Plus premades are more expensive than straight prey or franken prey model.

What I fail to understand about these prepackaged raw diet foods is why anyone would spend that much money per pound of food and miss out on the benifits of whole foods. Ground foods just don’t clean the teeth of a dog or satisfy a dog like whole prey animal parts do. Feeding ground foods is like giving a kid medicine that is only half as potent and twice the price of the real thing.
I started out feeding meats I ground myself, but it was a pain in the but to do all that work and see my dog miss out on chewing. I was scared to death to give her a raw chicken quarter, but everything was even better than fine.
