I mean, humans have to cook meat because… I guess because the human body can’t stand eating it the way it usually is… I dunno.
But most carnivores (well, actually all carnivores but humans) can eat meat raw, so would it be the same for dogs too?
I’m assuming dogs were meant to be carnivores because of their ancestors. But maybe they’re actually omnivores?
You don’t have to cook it. I feed my dogs raw meat everyday, there is no cooking involved, and they are 100% healthy.
dogs will eat crap for no reason and grass. they’ll also eat fruits and veggies, but this is not instinctive behavior. it is learned. by nature, dogs are carnivores. just look at their teeth. that’s why vegetarians always make me laugh. it would be different if the silly bastards were born without “canines.”
meat protien gave us the ability to develop a moral conscience. catch 22 for all those Meat Is Murder Morons.
RAWR.
Your right, dogs are carnivores and they can eat some meats raw, but chicken and fish are off limits.
I would cook it, even if it is just for a little bit, to be on the safe side.
My Pets have all ways been In Side/Out Side Animals. When they catch their Own, they eat it raw, but, if I give them some thing, it is from what I am eating, so, it is cooked.
raw is best. You can cook it if you want, but do NOT feed cooked bones!
If its meat you are unsure of, such as fish, or wild game, freeze it for at least 2 weeks to assure all parasites are killed.
Dogs are not as high risk for bacterial infections as we are.. they have different stomache acids.. and also different intestinal flora that is designed for meat.
Their digestive systems are also shorter.. what may take us a day or two to digest, can take a dog a matter of hours.
If you decide to fed raw, do it slow. I’d start with a simple meat.. most go with chicken. Slowly add more meats, and organ meats into the diet as the dog’s digestive system adjusts. Organ meats expecially, are rich, and can cause tummy upset if you add too many to the diet to quickly.. they do have alot of nutrients tho.. the diet should only be about 10% organ meats.
Make sure you clean up wel after feedings.. wash your hands, and any surfaces used for preparation. a 1:10 solution of bleach water is sufficient to kill bacteria. A 50:50 solution of vinegar water will kill bacteria too. Bleach solution is only good for 1 day tho, as bleach breaks down, so only mix what you need to clean up that day. Vinegar solution has a much longer shelf life.. you can mix up a spray bottle with some to keep around for cleaning.
Humans are not actually carnivores.. we are more herbavores than anything. We eat far more meat than what is actually needed in our diets.
Dogs digestive systems are set up to eat raw meat…that simple.
They eat meat, fruit & veg.
It is safer for both you and your dog to boil the meat first.
unless it is a raw meaty bone then do not cook it because cooked bones are unsafe for dogs
Humans can eat raw meat as long as it is freshly killed. Sometimes hunters will kill a deer and then eat it’s liver or heart when it is still warm. Wolves like to eat fresh killed meat too. It is just safer. And wolf pups eat the meat that is cooked in the adult wolves stomaches. They can’t digest raw meat like the adults can.
You may find some information here, it talks about meat diets and this vet/ nutritionist/ writer ect.. really knows his stuff.http://www.drpitcairn.com/nutrition/nutr…
We have his book and our dogs on his diets for 6 months now as well as two others we supplement care for. Buy the book, it’s worth it’s weight in gold. I’ve seen the results, they’re remarkable to put it mildly.
That doggy meatloaf (one of Dr. Pitcairns diets) is a real winner with all the ones I’ve given it to,lol
Our dogs actually eat healthier than us now, but that’s our choice, chips an dip are tough to give up when watching the Sapranos every week, lol
Edit: I had a good laugh last week when I got up and saw that our little 2 1/2 lb. Yorkie didn’t finish all the scrambled eggs on his plate for breakfast lol.
NEVER give your dog cooked chicken with the bones as the bone can splinter and cut up their insides.
Dogs are carnivores and mine eats meat both raw and cooked look up B.A.R.F diets for dogs. They say you should feed your dog raw meats a couple of times a week as well as fruit, veg, pasta and rice.
actually humans can and have and still do eat raw meat it is always better to cook meat so you can get all the Bactria dead and if you give your dog to much raw meat it might try to kill animals to eat
of course they can eat raw meat, the only difference cooked meat does, is it makes the food more appealing to the dog because of the smell….. dogs are equipped to eat raw meat… duh ……
