Hi, I’m a raw feeder too.
I was just wondering, what’s the most weird looking piece of meat you’ve ever fed your dog? I’m about to feed a beef tounge, and it will be the oddest looking piece of meat I’ve ever fed.
Oh, and one more question- Since what month/year have you been raw feeding? I’ve been doing raw since November 2008.
Thanks for answering!

Chum – which is basically a bunch of fish parts that are tossed in a bucket to use as bait… so its sloppy guts and whatever interspersed with heads, tails and fins. I get it in a 5 gallon pail, transfer it to 1 gallon pails and freeze it for a few weeks (kill off any parasites) and then thaw and feed it to the dogs.
Gotta say, I get a kick out of the naysayers … especially when I’m winning in the show ring and spending far less $$ at the vet since I don’t have to deal with issues like tartar on teeth, anal gland issues, diarrhea from eating weird stuff (my dogs thrive on weird stuff) and no ear infections (in a breed prone to them).
I’ve been feeding a primarily prey model raw diet for about 15 years – I started out slowly and now cannot imagine doing otherwise.
I’ve been feeding raw to my female since she was 9 months old, she’ll be 3 in May. Her brother has been on it since he was 8 weeks old, he’ll be 2 in August.
There diet is ground chicken with 10% beef.
Raw is not foolish, only people who refuse to understand the natural benefits for you dog, well what can I say. What do wolves eat in the wild? Raw food of course.
The reason I started raw was at the age of 6 mths my female started to loose her coat and with the vet’s help they weren’t even able to diagnose her condition. I met this lady by chance who is well veresed in holistic medicine for dogs and the raw food diet and she immediately knew what was wrong with her, her food (highly acclaimed natural brand ) was making her sick.
The vet told me her hair would never grow back, well you know what it did and you can’t even tell where those patches were. My pooches are young, vibrant and healthy and their coats are as soft as a mink and shine like silk.
My dogs will never go back on a commerical brand of dog food ever. It would be like slowly killing my children.
I started raw feeding about 2-3 months ago.
I have two puppies and two kittens whom are all raw fed.
I have to say it’s kangaroo tails.
Both my dogs (the cats don’t like them) get 1 each twice a week to chew (they get chicken necks daily) and the idea of it grossed me out but they love kangaroo and it’s my base meat of choice.
Also maybe ox livers?? The look much grosser then chicken livers, but only one of my puppies likes them they all enjoy chicken liver though!
ADD: The only offal I use so far is liver, I’m working toward heart but am not there yet. I was supplementing the missing nutrients prior but I’m finally there. Trust me, for a vegan feeding my animals meat is pretty hard but I know it’s in there best interest.
I started raw feeding, oh it must have been a couple of years ago now. To be honest, I hate it all! The look and texture of the organ meat, and it kind of stinks. I hate the smell of raw meat.
The weirdest looking piece of meat I ever fed would be sheep kidney. It just looked so bizarre, not like the other kidneys at all.
Brains are pretty awful too.
Hi Mutt!
I don’t RAW feed, but I have done it before. But it was only Chicken, Beef, and Venison. The venison looked the grossest, I don’t like venison though…
Okay… I did hear that you can feed a dog a deers head, next time my dad/sibling gets a deer, I might feed the head/legs to the dogs, if it is fine, and it looks so gross when a dog eats it
I fed RAW for 3 days, they loved it.
well i have been feeding raw on and off since september 08, the girl is back on the raw food, however since their puppies we could only introduce organs such as lambs heart, this creeped me out on the pure basis of it being heart, we fed them lambs liver and chicken liver, these are pretty slimy and smell like iron which is kind of gross :s
the weirdest looking raw for me was the chicken and turkey necks, i would just chuck them a turkey neck in the garden and they would play around with it as it swung all limply in their mouths>>>>not good imagery
i haven’t got on to tongue or brains yet!!!!
Ive been raw feeding as long as Ive had Rocco, which will be 3 years in June.
Yeh, beef tounge is weird. The first time I fed Lamb Tongues I dry reached. They looked so much like a human tongue and were slimy.
Brains still weird me out.
In fact my freezer must look pretty weird to a non-raw feeder. Its where I store all my *spare parts*. Brains, liver, heart, kidneys, cheek etc
I buy the majority of my food from the grocery store. So I can’t really say the “weirdest” as I get weird looks buying all the “gross” meat to begin with.
But I have fed squirrel once.
I think I’ve been feeding raw since January 2008, may have been earlier though.
I feed, pork hearts, pork hocks, pork liver, pork riblets, chicken hearts & gizzards, chicken backs, chicken wings, beef liver, beef kidney, beef ribs.

I love how people come to “answer” just to grab a quick two points. Because the question doesn’t pertain to them, they feel their still entitled to be idiots about it.
Ive only just started – and at the moment he is not “fully” RAW, just his evening meal. So far, he’s only had chicken but he had some lamb kidneys over the weekend which (for a vegetarian) smelt and felt so gross! I’m sure we have many delights to follow…….
Raw feeding is not foolish, it is great and much healthier than those cheap kibble brands. it is more expensive but much much much better then kibble or anything like that. beef tongue is the weirdest thing my dog tried… strange right?
Well what do you know, I have been raw feeding since November 2008 too
The weirdest piece of meat I have ever fed was Beef lips
Tripe / brains
I’m not totally feeding raw any longer but I do giveRMBs (RawMeatyBones) Chicken wings, turkey necks as treats and cleans the crud off of their teeth.
Pork neck always yielded tummy trouble as well as beef. they do well on poultry, lamb and fish
I don’t waste time & money on that foolishness.
My dogs have eaten rats, mice & an entire rabbit head. I discourage that.
