Raw isn't supposed to be effortless. Premade has stuff your dog doesn't need or food mixed together that are sometimes fed separately like organs and muscle meat.http://www.rawfeddogs.net http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfe…
meaty bones, raw meat and organs for the raw diet. thats it unless you do prey model where you dog is getting the whole animal like a whole rabbit guts included fur or no fur depending on your dogs preference.
I will give other premades credit though over Natures Made at least they add ground bones to the mix. Plus by not using premade you know 100% what you are feeding to your dog.

If you can't or won't feed raw...
Look for a food with meat as the first ingredient. Dogs don't need all those other fillers like rice, run away from anything with corn in it.

i personally feed Solid Gold Hund-n-Flockin all stages.
but other good ones are Canidae, Innova, Blue Buffalo...etc.
not sure what you can get in the UK. all i can say is to google
"human grade pet food in the UK" and see what you get.
forgot to add...pedigree is disgusting food full of fillers and poor meats. you want food that uses "human grade" meats. pet grade is basically anything that is not considered fit for human consumption...including deseased tissue.pet food companies are full of crap when they say they use "choice cuts of meat" what they use is left over cuts from the crap we cant eat. im sure not feeding that to my dogs....this includes, purina, pedigree, science diet, Iams, Eukanuba (which is owned by the Iams company, who are KNOWN to do animal testing).

My Shiba Inu is on an organic kibble called "Lotus" for puppies and is from Canada. You can go to their site. The pet store I go to recommended it to me out of all their food. Since I've switched to it my puppy has firmer stools. I add a half a spoonful of raw chicken or beef to the kibble to make the kibble more interesting. But I am really happy with the Lotus. I even tasted it mylself comparing it to his old California Natural kibble which tasted very bland (Just took a bite out of each-tastes more like a cracker). The raw food I get is from the pet store's freezer and has ground in bones, cartilidge and pure meat which they said is better than any canned food any day. They also have freeze dried versions of the raw for treats.
