I have been reading about feeding your dog raw and I have heard it good for them. I was wondering what people think about it and what would be a balanced meal.
We have a black lab that has allergies. He’s an outside dog, so we’re not sure exactly WHAT he’s allergic to… and we just don’t have $500 right now to have him tested to see what he’s allergic to.
His skin is always dry, and for a lab, that’s kinda weird. So, I started reading up on a raw diet. Many people give their dogs raw meat and bones to eat on a raw diet, but we just decided to start doing raw meat to see if he’d like it.
Although it was disgusting to me, he LOVED raw meat. We were thinking that if we cut out the ingredients in the dog food that we were feeding him that maybe we’d see if it’s something there that he’s allergic to.
Well, we ended up finding out that he’s allergic to something outside, and not the food that we were feeding him (Pedigree), but he LOVES the raw meat. We will supplement his Pedigree with raw hamburger as a treat, and may even throw in a couple of raw eggs with it. He devours it like ice cream.
One thing we did notice was that his coat turned very silky and his skin cleared up quite nicely. He still takes the occasional Benadryl capsule to help with itching, but he’s doing much better.
Good luck if you do start the raw diet! Hope your dog likes it!
Many people do the Raw Diet for their dogs, but I personally don’t agree with it. I have read that is is not as healthy as advertised because comparing domestic dogs to wild ones(like wolves) is not accurate.
I look at it this way. As a human, would you switch to raw food? People did it way back in the day and survived, right?
