It’s kinda a dumb question but I hear about a lot of people feeding their animals a “raw” diet and I was wondering if I could like, chop up an uncooked piece of chicken breast and give it to her raw or do I need to cook it? I’m confused.
The answer is yes – cats can eat raw chicken.
But there’s a lot more to it than just giving your cat some raw chicken. There’s research involved because you have to be sure that your cat is eating a balanced meal, and meat alone won’t provide that.
So you could indeed offer your cat some raw chicken if you wish, or you could give it some cooked chicken – just don’t add any spices or anything to it. You could do this as a treat. But you shouldn’t do it as a meal unless you take the time to learn more about it.
Canned tuna – kind of the same thing. It’s not suitable as a meal replacement, but it’s marginally ok to use as the very occasional treat. But too much is a bad thing.
yes, they can eat raw chicken. much current thinking on feeding our ‘pets’ advises feeding only raw, grain free diets. a google search yields plenty of information about it. raw diets are also referred to as barf diets. (kind of unfortunate acronym). anyway, you likely don’t even need to chop the breast up.
Part of raw feeding does involve feeding raw chicken (usually the wings) but you could use the breast if they will eat it.
I’d still rather feed them cooked meat (other then a little raw hamberger or beef).
I don’t like feeding my cats fish, so I would not feed canned tuna.
Yep… a chopped up raw chicken breast is the perfect place to start. No cooking needed.
I personally feed a ground Raw Meat, Bones and Organ based diet to my cats and they are incredibly healthy on it. I HIGHLY recommend it. While scary at first, once I got the hang of it and felt comfortable with it it’s a snap to prepare.
Cats are obligate carnivores after all and must derive ALL their nutrients from meat based sources. They are unable to absorb them from any other source. Despite thousands of years of domestication they remain strictly carnivorous. True and honest meat eaters and that is what they need most. Protein from meat!

Steamed is favourite with my three but they will eat it raw if they have to.
Boil the chicken and serve it with no seasonings. Canned tuna is fine in moderation, once or twice a week.
yes to all above
