I have a 50lb pitbull that I am starting on RAW. How much would be an ideal amount and should I supplement? For those who may want to know, I am switching to RAW because in the last year we have tried several different foods that he has rejected including timberwolf and merrick. Any positive suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
You will need to consult your vet in order to get the correct amounts. He will have to be supplemented, which again is another reason to speak with the vet.
Also, there is a company called Nature’s Variety that makes raw food patties that are already supplemented. They are also pre-measured with approximate amounts to feed.
Also, if you decide to make your own raw diet freeze the meat first. It will help destroy some of the bacteria and parasites that may be in the meat.
Hi , I have to APBT’s and just switched them off raw. It just got to be too damn expensive! But it is very healthy and the dogs did awesome on it.
Here is what my dogs diets consisted of , in the morning I would give them each half a package of chicken hearts and gizzards, 2 beef livers, 1 egg , 3 tblsp of Plain full fat yogurt and 1000 mg Fish oil capsule.
In the evening they would usually get a chicken quarter and some pork necks, or pigs feet. Some other meaty bone options are ox tails *more expensive though* Beef soup bones, lamb breast *also expensive.
Just make sure that they are getting a variety of different meats and watch that they are doing well. A dog on the raw diet will eat much less than a dog on kibble as the majority of the food is being used, an added bonus is there is very little waste! Congrats on feeding above the norm, good luck and I hope I was helpful! Oh and check out these sites for some more info.
